We have recently been granted planning permission for this new-build residential scheme in north London.
A previous application for 14 units on the same site by different architect was refused by Enfield Council.
RCKa was then appointed by the client to prepare a completely new design, returning to first principles both in terms of the layout of the block and the arrangement of the internal accommodation.
By carefully considering the response to the existing streetscape and addressing concerns regarding overshadowing of neighbouring properties we developed a T-shaped plan into which we were able to accommodate 18 mixed-tenure units - four more than the previously refused scheme.
A rear access gallery provides a visual connection to the shared amenity space at the rear and helps nurture a sense of community amongst residents with space for planting and voids between floors allowing interaction between neighbours on different floors.
The scheme is due to start on site later in 2015.
